Top 3 – The Very Best!

The three sources below are the very best of the online, frozen feeder sources we have found within the US. All 3 uphold the highest standards of humane animal welfare, hygiene, and customer service. All 3 are also affordable. You can’t go wrong with any of these 3!
    • “Why would I want to go with the ‘best’ source, instead of what may be cheapest or most convenient?”
      • Aside from wishing to provide our companion snakes with the best care possible to live their best lives, using the highest-quality feeders available to you gives you the highest chance your snake will eagerly eat!
      • Use the highest-quality feeders available to you to minimize the chances of your snake refusing food or going off-feed.
  • Layne Labs
    • Located in the US West Coast (Arroyo Grande, California).
    • High standards of hygiene and humane, ethical care & treatment of their feeder animals.
    • Excellent customer service (in our experience).
    • This is our current feeder source! We have been impressed by the level of cleanliness of their feeders. This made feeding our rosy much easier & more pleasant for us, especially as new snake keepers.
    • Info about Layne Labs’ history, facilities, and feeder conditions.
  • Perfect Prey
    • Located in the US East Coast.
    • Supposedly the best of the very best! Might be either the most affordable or most pricey of these 3, depending on your location. If you’re on the east coast US, they should be among the most affordable options for you. If you are on the west coast, they might be pricier, and one of the first 2 might be a better option for your budget!
    • If we lived on the East Coast, we would happily order from here! Living on the West Coast, they are less affordable to us than the first two options above.

Second Tier

If for some reason the above 3 are unavailable to you.
  • Rodent Pro
    • Located in the US Midwest (Evansville, Indiana).
    • Similar quality to the above 3, but seems to be less consistent.
    • From my research online, my understanding is this used to be one of the best feeder sources, similar to the top 3. At some point during the past few years, they began outsourcing their feeder production. This resulted in lower quality, according to some reviews I found online (less hygienically packaged, lower quality feeders). This is why there will be some discrepancy in the reviews for this company (older reviews tend to be better than more recent experiences).
      • Quality seems to be slightly hit-or-miss – you will most likely still receive high-quality feeders. There’s only a higher chance they may be lower quality, whereas with the top 3 above, you should be assured of quality & cleanliness every time.

Bottom Tier: Please Avoid!

The brands below have the lowest standards in quality, hygiene, and animal welfare. Due to their lower quality, snakes are more likely to refuse food from these sources compared to any of the above sources. They also tend to be the most expensive, so there is really no reason to ever offer these to your rosy. Avoid if possible!
  • Arctic Mice or any feeders from PetSmart or Petco
    • Arctic Mice is the PetSmart brand.
    • Lowest quality, least hygienic, AND most expensive of all the options on this page!
      • By “least hygienic,” reviews mention feeders can have urine/feces caked on them, or even skin sores! (Gross! D: And sad for the mice kept in those conditions.)
      • This is contrasted by any of the other sources on this page, which should only be shipping healthy, clean mice to you.
    • Highest chance your snake will refuse food from these brands.
    • There is simply no reason to choose them.
